Small scale wind turbines are capable of generating most, if not all of the electricity for a house. With the price of electricity rising and robust and reliable wind turbines becoming available at competitive prices, this is a viable option if you have a medium-sized or large garden.
The turbines can be installed either to feed into the grid or to store electricity in a bank of batteries. They can be installed in conjunction with Photo-Voltaic ( Solar Electric Panels) so that you are generating electricity whenever the wind is blowing or the sun is shining.
Typically, the wind turbine blades are 0.5 - 3 metres long and are attached to a pole between 6m and 25m high. Usually, planning consent will be needed from your local authority.
