Small scale wind turbines are capable of generating most, if not all of the electricity for a house. With the introduction of feed-in tariffs, the price of electricity rising and robust and reliable wind turbines becoming available at competitive prices, this is generally a viable option if you have a medium-sized to large garden and a sufficiently windy location.
Typically, the wind turbine blades are between 1 and 6 metres long and are attached to a pole between 6m and 25m high. Usually, planning consent will be needed from your local authority.
