Hydro-Electricity from the power of falling water

There are many sites around the South West, particularly next to weirs on rivers, which have been used in the past for generating electricity or powering water wheels. With the rising electricity prices, many of these places can be renovated to generate electricity again.

We can tell you whether your site is feasible for hydro and can specify and install hydro turbines and associated infra-structure.

We have recently undertaken a substantial fesibility study of hydroelectricity in Lynton and Lynmouth on behalf of North Devon District Council.

Equally a small stream flowing down a steep hillside can be a useable source of electrical energy.

Usually an abstraction license from the Environment Agency will be required but one advantage of hydro is that it is less intermittent than other renewable sources such as solar and wind.

Renewable Power is currently working to develop 2 hydro sites in South West England. If you own a site which may be suitable for hydro-electricity then please contact us.
